Oct. 20, 2011 -***** "Burgers don't get much better than this. The Swiss mushroom burger that I had at American Burger was right on par with Barney's hamburgers, the small local chain of gourmet hamburger restaurants up in the Berkeley area
You can tell that a burger joint has it right when the bun isn't just an afterthought used for holding the meat. The bun was soft, with a touch of sweetness and slightly chewy. It was perfect with the crispy smoky flavor of the beef patty.

As an extra plus, the decor is a lot of fun in this place. I went there with my wife and we felt like two teenagers our on a date in some uniquely retro out of the way dining hall. I wish I lived closer to Monterey so I could go here more often.

Apr. 2, 2011 - ****Our first visit was Hawaiian Music & Island Burger. The food was excellent & the music top notch. This was a special event night; the music, food, & soft beverage were included in the $15 cover charge. We ordered beers separately. American Burger is a family friendly place; when the owner/chef came out to greet patrons we were all treated like family. We will definitely return. :) Tripadvisor.com *****

Feb. 17, 2010 -"This place would probably get a better following with good advertisement. I thought the food was pretty good. The restaurant is in a area with not a very good visual for it. The parking lot is nice enough to have considering the parking situation with the town. People should try this place and give them more of a chance. They need more foot traffic in there. Nov. 15, 2009 - "The size of semi-truck tires. Ranch Dressing for the ORings,a different kind of Ranch, I think there was feta in it. My arteries are still clogged, I couldn't eat enough, it was worth it. Fries, chunky and herb-seasoned - superb and different. I ordered the Ortega burger - Fire-roasted Ortega peppers with a kicked up, Bam! Jack Cheese oozing all over the Angus beefburger. Housed inside an artisan-bread roll. Washed down with a cement-thick strawberry-rich creamy milkshake. Sometimes the simple things in life are purely the best.

Sep. 21, 2009 - "yeah we're tourists in Monterey who wanted some good old burgers. Drove by this place around lunchtime and it's empty. We ordered four burgers and they took forever to come.....something like 20 minutes? I couldn't taste any mushroom in the mushroom burger, bleh. The patty is nice and thick, but they're grilled too hard and had some strong charcoal taste. Yuck."

Our Response - We are so sorry!!! Here is what we have done, and are doing, to fix the problem:
1) We are attracting more business so that we can afford to hire more staff so that both the grill and the dining area get proper attention.  We are still a little ways away from being able to do that, but we're making progress!
2) We have adjusted the cooking time on our burgers to ensure that over-cooked meat is a very infrequent problem.
3) We are still trying to figure out the mushroom problem.  If anyone else has had a negative experience with them, please let us know!

In the future, should you ever visit Monterey and try our place again, please do not leave unsatisfied!  Let us know as soon as there is a problem and we will either make it right or your meal is on us!  We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay!


Sep. 9, 2009 - "I saw this place walking home from work. I love a good burger, so I called my friend to join me to check this place out. The decor is cute with a bunch of cool posters. We got here and it was pretty empty, which seems like a bad sign, but I was pleasantly surprised that food was actually quite good. The waiter was really nice was making my friend and I laugh the whole time with his jokes. I don't think too many people know about this place so i recommend that you check it out!"

Aug 22, 2009  - "Fairly new place, but great burgers. I tried the mushroom burgers and it was delicious. Sautéed mushroom and onions melted American cheese oh yea.. rice is really low compare to other places around here in Monterey. Any Burger with fries under $8 bucks that's a deal. love their slogan ..."Creating Smile with Classic Burgers" They surely made me smile. Friendly service as well. Is locally and family owned."
